How to Insert and Remove Skateboard Bearings By Hand

By Skate Warehouse |

If you ever have trouble adding and removing bearings from a skateboard wheel then read on. We are going to give step-by-step instructions on how to easily remove and add bearings into a skateboard wheel without using a bearing press.

Removing Bearings From A Wheel

  1. Remove your wheel from your truck by removing the axle nut.
  2. Take the wheel with the bearings inside, and place it in the axle of your skateboard truck. Find the middle in between each bearing and twist to pop the first bearing.
  3. Flip the wheel to the other side, and use the axle of the truck again to pop the next bearing off.
  4. Repeat for your other bearings.

Adding New Bearings To A Wheel

  1. Grab two of the new bearings (One bearing for each side of the wheel).
  2. Set one bearing on the axle.
  3. Grab your wheel and set it flush on the axle. Press down until the bearing pops into the wheel.
  4. Grab a new bearing and set it on the axle. Flip your wheel over and repeat step 3. Screw on your axle nut for that wheel with bearings inside.
  5. Repeat for other bearings.
  6. Screw on axle nut once finished.

And that’s how you remove old bearings and apply new bearings to a skateboard without using a bearing press. If you have any additional questions, you can watch our how-to video below.
